Justice

GOD'S CHARACTER - Justice with a side note on vengeance

Psalm 9: 7 & 8

         The Lord reigns forever

He has established His throne for judgment

He will judge the world in righteousness,

He will govern the people with justice.

Psalm 9:16

The Lord is known by His justice …

Psalm 11:7

         For the Lord is righteous,

         He loves justice

Proverbs 29:26

Many seek an audience with a ruler,

But it is from the Lord that man gets justice.

Isaiah 30:18

         Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you;

He rises to show you compassion.

For the Lord is a God of justice

Blessed are those who wait for Him.

Isaiah 42:1

Here is my servant, whom I uphold,

         My chosen one in whom I delight;

I will put My Spirit on him and he

Will bring justice to the nations.

Isaiah 42:4

He will not falter or be discouraged

Till he establishes justice on earth.

Jeremiah 30:11

… I will discipline you but only with justice.

I will not let you go entirely unpunished.

Ezekiel 34:16

I will search for the lost and bring back the strays. I will bind up the injured and strengthen the weak, but the sleek and the strong I will destroy. I will shepherd the flock with justice.

Romans 3:25 – 26

(After stating that righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe – everyone has sinned)

“God presented him (Jesus) as a sacrifice of atonement through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate His justice, because in His forbearance He had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished –

He did this to demonstrate His justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.

And on VENGEANCE …

 Romans 12:19

Do not take revenge my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: ‘It is mine to avenge; I will repay says the Lord’. (From Deuteronomy 32:35)

Deuteronomy 32:35 (in its entirety)

It is mine to avenge; I will repay. In due time their foot will slip; their day of disaster is near and their doom rushes upon them.

2 Thessalonians 1:6

God is just; He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you …  (look up when it happens in verses 7- 10)

Ephesians 4:26 – 27

“In your anger do not sin.” Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.

Leviticus 19:18

You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord.

I Thessalonians 5:15

Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else.

A perfect image of leaving vengeance in God’s hands:

I Samuel 24:12

(David’s words after he spares Saul’s life)

May the Lord judge between you and me. And may the Lord avenge the wrongs you have done to me, but my hand will not touch you.
