TEENS GET READY!!!

This blog is dedicated to my favorite age group – TEENAGERS!!!! Of course pre-teens are welcome also because you will shortly inhabit my favorite age group.

Adults you are welcome to listen and I love you – most of my friends are adults – but hey – teenagers are an important part of the church – no I didn’t say the church of the future … teens are a critical part of the body of Christ TODAY!!!

So get ready for what?!!

Those of you who know me … you know what’s coming … I can hear Nenna saying it now … that’s right …. YOKING!!!!!!!

WHAT IS YOKING?

Visualize two oxen bound together by a large wooden harness fastened around their necks and held in place by leather fasteners. The yoke is used in order to get the strength of both working together to one task. Two oxen in the field without a yoke can move their own way, but introduce the yoke and they are bound together.

THE WORD

2 Corinthians 6: 14- 16  “Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God….”

We are expected to be out in the world – we are witnesses for our Lord Jesus. Each of us holds our own particular position in the world for Him. As we move through our area of influence - sprinkling the salt of Jesus and shining His light – we form relationships.

Some of these are acquaintances – maybe some school friends who we have for a moment in time but in the scope of a lifetime they will not necessarily be a constant. These are people we interact with but who are not really influential in our lives.

We have best friends – people we have lots in common with or we really like their personalities. We influence each other. They are important in our lives. What they think matters. We spend a lot of time with them.

Since I’m talking to teens – I’m assuming most of you aren’t married? Yeah, good.  But now we enter the time of hanging out with a group – maybe even choosing someone we are attracted to who gets a little more of our time and attention.

EMERGENCY CHECK YOKING PROCEEDURE HERE!!!!

We can’t afford at any age to “yoke up” with someone who will be going in the other direction from the path that Christ has for us.

By all means reach out and touch the world for Jesus – everybody you can get to – show them what Jesus is like– tell them who Jesus is– invite them to fellowship in a group of believers … but no yoking.

What do I do now to follow God’s will?

PICK YOUR YOKE

Jesus is talking to us in Matthew 11:28 - 30

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Making this decision to follow God’s Word at this time in your teen years can bring you to God’s first best choices for you in all things ahead. May He bless you richly and may His Holy Spirit give you life and fruit.
